3 New ADSB-Out Mandates You Don't Want to Miss Out On!

July 6, 2023

And why it is crucial to take preventive action to avoid getting your aircraft grounded

The implementation of the update on the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B Out) system, as mandated by the FAA, EASA, CAAC, and other authorities, is now a reality. ADS-B Out is an aviation requirement for tracking aircraft surveillance, expanding ATC surveillance into more areas.

With most airlines in the US, Europe, and the Middle East already complying with the ADS-B Out mandates, you might think that implementation is going smoothly and there are no significant hurdles to expect.

However, there is still a high chance of encountering issues, and it is crucial to take preventive action to avoid getting your aircraft grounded. The most likely scenario is when an aircraft that is not equipped with ADS-B Out needs to fly through mandatory airspace or when an aircraft is being redelivered from a non-mandatory country to a mandatory one.

As new mandates come into effect, now is the perfect time to equip your aircraft with the necessary ADS-B Out technology. To assist you in designing your ADS-B Out adoption roadmap, we have compiled a list of upcoming mandates that you should be aware of [courtesy of David Mumford(1)].

Europe

The deadline for ADS-B Out compliance in Europe passed on June 7, 2023. Although there are some exemptions, many aircraft flying to Europe need to be equipped with ADS-B Out to continue operating.

Fiji

Starting from July 13th, 2023, ADS-B Out will be required for all flights in the Fiji domestic sector of the NFFF/Nadi FIR. (It is already required in the New Caledonia sector, around NWWW/Noumea airport). Ref: AIC 03/23.

Canada

Beginning August 10th, 2023, ADS-B Out will be required for all flights in Class A airspace (at or above FL180), followed by Class B airspace from May 16th, 2024, and then across all other airspace from some time in 2026. Ref: NavCanada
