Denim Air sees further fleet expansion

Fokker 50 Denim AirDenim Air BV, part of the Denim Air Group and based at Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands, has recently purchased another 4 Fokker 50 aircraft. Two of these aircraft have been added to Denim Air's own fleet, which brings the total Fokker 50 fleet to 12 aircraft. The other two Fokker 50 aircraft have been sold to VLM.

Denim Air's fleet furthermore consists of 5 Dash 8 Q300 aircraft, all of which are operating on long-term wet leases to Europe's leading regional airline Air Nostrum of Spain.

The two new Fokker 50s will be used to increase capacity for ACMI wet leases and to expand the network of Denim Airways' routes. Denim Airways, the regional airline of the Denim Air Group, started in June 2003 and currently operates daily scheduled services in Germany between Augsburg - Berlin Tempelhof and Augsburg - Düsseldorf. This year Denim Airways will also operate regular flights to Braç and Zadar in Croatia and Naples and Cagliari in Italy.

On 9 March the first of the two new aircraft arrived in the hangar of Denim Air Maintenance BV, which will perform maintenance on its own as well as on third party aircraft. The newest F50 was completely 'stripped' and repainted in Eindhoven in Denim Air livery. The advantage of the new livery is the possibility to easily add the name of the company that wet leases the aircraft.

Not only the outside of the aircraft has been renewed; the aircraft also received a major technical overhaul and the inside of both aircraft has been refurbished with among others, new luxurious leather seats. The second aircraft will be overhauled, repainted and refurbished as well and will be ready for charters and wet leases by April 2004.

In 2003, Denim Air performed more than 35,000 scheduled ACMI flights for various operators in Europe. The additional Fokker 50s have been purchased to meet the increasing market demand for ACMI wet leases. The increasing ACMI demand and expanding Denim Airways network ensure future growth of the Denim Air Group. Further fleet expansion and larger aircraft will be announced in the course of 2004.
